TOTKV Success!

From Our Founder:

“On Saturday evening, May 18th, I was proud to introduce my daughter Sophie, my grandson Silas, and my friend Amy to all the hard work the Plimpton Foundation has been doing over the past couple of years since we were first formed as a nonprofit. That night was the culmination of an idea sprung from the brilliant mind of our president, Tim Long - that is the introduction of The North American Indigenous Songbook One. At this concert, in partnership with the host National Sawdust, we heard Tim play the first composed pieces of music he’d ever attempted in his life, as well as Cherokee songs sung by our 2021 Timothy Long Scholarship winner and Julliard Masters student, Kate Morton. Also performing were world renown Navaho and Ute flutist R Carlos Nakai, the critically acclaimed Canadian mezzo-soprano, Marion Newman, Choctaw baritone Mark Billy and the always fun and incredibly talented Martha Redbone who holds a special place in my heart. It was a packed house and the reception the audience gave said it all – a standing ovation!

Next up is our November 16th concert of the actual World Premier of the commissioned pieces from all nine commissioned Native composers at the same venue in Brooklyn. In addition to pieces written by Tim, R. Carlos Nakai and Martha Redbone, will be works from Charles Shadle, Connor Chee, Timothy Archambault, Dawn Avery, Sage Bond, and Pulitzer Prize winner Raven Chacon. Please mark your calendars and make the trip to National Sawdust for this once-in-a-lifetime premiere of all original Native American music.”
